Professor Emeritus at the Department of Biology

Additional information

Dimroth has been full Professor in the Institute of Microbiology at the ETH Zurich since April 1,1990.

P. Dimroth studied chemistry at the Universities of Marburg, Freiburg and Munich. After earning his Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute for Cell Chemistry in Munich he did postdoctoral work at New York University and the Johns Hopkins University. He then became assistant at the University of Regensburg, where he received habilitation in biochemistry. In 1980 he became professor of biochemistry at the Technical University of Munich.

His research projects were the mechanisms of ion transport, especially Na+ transport across biological membranes. He investigated Na+-translocating F1Fo ATPases, Na+-translocating decarboxylases, Na+-translocating NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductases and a Na+-coupled citrate transporter. In the laboratory, the 2-component regulatory system for the bacterial anaerobic citrate metabolism was also explored.
