Peter Marti has been Full Professor of Structural Engineering at ETH Zurich since October 1990.



Prof. Marti obtained his diploma in civil engineering from ETH Zurich in 1973 and his doctorate in 1980 with a dissertation on the application of the theory of plasticity to structural concrete. From 1982-1987 he was associate professor of structural engineering at the University of Toronto where his research focused on the behaviour of reinforced and prestressed concrete plate and shell structures. From 1987-1990 he was executive vice-president of VSL International AG and chief technical officer of the VSL Group, a leading specialist construction company in the field of prestressing with operations in 37 countries.



Prof. Marti has been responsible for courses in structural analysis, structural concrete and structural design. His research concentrates on structural concrete and masonry. He is the president of the Society for the Art of Civil Engineering, head of the Swisscodes project team, chairman of the Swiss structural concrete code committee and chairman of the commission on modelling of structural behaviour and design of the international federation for structural concrete.
