Data dashboard

Data visualisation refers to the graphical representation of data. With visual elements such as charts, graphs and maps, data visualisation provides an easy-to-use method to identify and understand trends, spikes and patterns in data. This is how data becomes valuable and effective information.

The visualisation of data in tabular form is ubiquitous. Although this is sufficient for specialists from different sectors, other stakeholder groups are unable to recognise any correlations, deviations or spikes from the simple tables. Only a good visualisation of all available data sources can reveal correlations, mechanisms and effects. To support this, data from different data sources must be linked – and this represents a central element of today's data visualisation tools.

The IT Services of ETH can support you in transforming your data into practical, implementable findings. Explore your data with visual analyses. Share your work results using dashboards that allow you to perform ad-hoc analyses with just a few clicks.

Creation of a dashboard

The creation of a dashboard is handled as a project. During an initial, free kick-off meeting, the dashboard requirements and the data sources to be analysed are determined. Based on these core values, IT services prepare an offer with the proposed procedure and possible costs. Depending on the size and complexity of the dashboard and the data sources, the work is dealt with as a project or in the form of individual work sessions.

Operation of a dashboard

The costs for running a dashboard depend on the visibility of the dashboard. Should a dashboard only be available to limited user groups, or does it even need to be operated on a dedicated platform? This is also determined during the free kick-off meeting and is included in the offer of IT services. If the dashboard is operated by IT Services, a corresponding Service Level Agreement (SLA) is drawn up during the creation of the dashboard.
