Read and Publish agreement with Springer Nature

The new Read and Publish agreement between ETH Library and Springer Nature not only makes scientific research accessible worldwide but also effectively advances it. A service for members of ETH Zurich.

As a scientist at ETH Zurich, you can publish open-access articles in Springer Nature journals without incurring any costs starting on 1 July 2020. The associated costs are covered by the new Read and Publish agreement. The agreement requires that you as the corresponding author of the submitted article are employed at ETH Zurich, and that the article was accepted after 31 May 2020. After acceptance of the article, your affiliation with ETH Zurich will be recognised based on your affiliation selection and email address.

A broad spectrum for extensive dissemination

This agreement generally applies to all DownloadSpringer Nature journals (PDF, 632 KB), with the exception of the journal Nature, the “Nature”-branded journals (e.g. “Nature Chemistry”) and “Scientific American”. A separate agreement allows you as an author affiliated with ETH Zurich to publish free of charge through ETH Library in the Gold Open Access journals of the Springer imprints BioMed Central and SpringerOpen.

Unparalleled career and research support

With this agreement with Springer Nature, which was negotiated by swissuniversities, you benefit from the third Read and Publish agreement for ETH Zurich after the agreements with Elsevier and the Royal Society of Chemistry. In a combined contract model, it brings together electronic access to all Springer Nature journals with the option of open-access publishing. For ETH Zurich, this is an important step towards successful implementation of its open-access policy and the external pagenational open-access strategy in order to offer all researchers the best prospects for disseminating their scientific findings as globally and transparently as possible.
