Registration

The following instructions must be considered when completing the registration form in eApply.

Personal data

Preferred first name

A preferred first name is a preferred/chosen name which includes components of the legal name, e.g. the middle name.

Former name

The former name is different to the name currently shown in the passport. The former name can be a maiden name, family name or similar.

Special characters in names

There are certain special characters that are not permitted in the surname, first name and first name fields. Only Western European characters are permitted (Latin-1 character set, external pageISO-8859-1).

If the name contains special characters that are not permitted, the name in question must be saved in eApply without them.

Date of birth

Dates have to be entered in the format “YYYY-MM-DD” (Year-Month-Day). The date can be selected from the calendar.
Applicants older than 60 enter the date of birth manually.

Swiss Social Security number (“AHV” )

Applicants from abroad leave these fields blank.

Photo

The photo must be uploaded in the format of 35mm x 45mm (or at least 300 x 400 pixels). The maximum file size is 1 Megabyte.

Registration is not possible without a photo. In the case of an admission, the photograph will be used for matriculation and ETH card.

Addresses

Phone

For phone numbers outside Switzerland the preceding international country code must be included (e.g. 0049 1234567 or +49 1234567 for Germany).

Study address

If a “study address” does not yet exist, the same data as for “permanent address” can be used. This data can automatically be inserted using the “Copy” button.

After admission to ETH Zurich and after a study address exists, the study address can be changed again at any time.
