This conference report, which focuses on the US-ROK-Japan Extended Deterrence Trilateral Dialogue staged by CSIS, assesses the threats posed by North Korea. The conference participants agreed that 1) the DPRK’s foreign policy is indeed dangerous; 2) China continues to play a central role in dealing with the country; and 3) Pyongyang is likely to continue with its destabilizing provocations. What the participants didn’t agree on was how to cooperate with Beijing in dealing with the ‘Korea problem’.
