This brief investigates how inadequate collaboration and a lack of trust between European and African forces are impeding intelligence sharing by the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali (MINUSMA). In response, the brief’s authors outline how the mission could benefit from 1) the increased involvement of African troops in intelligence gathering; 2) greater links with the local population; and 3) improved intelligence collaboration between MINUSMA-contributing countries.
