This report advocates an enhanced role for Britain in UN peace operations. In doing so, it 1) summarizes current UK policy towards this activity; 2) examines the potential political, security and institutional benefits that might accrue from greater UK participation; 3) considers the extent to which increasing UK contributions to UN peace operations would strengthen the UN system and Britain’s position within it; and 4) discusses prudential questions that the UK should consider before participating in future deployments.
