This briefing paper presents the results of a 2005 Afrobarometer survey on a variety of issues related to corruption in Tanzania. It provides a brief introduction to the problem of corruption in Tanzania, then addresses the government's handling of corruption in the public sector. It discusses respondents' personal experiences and definitions of corruption, before comparing Tanzania to other countries in Africa. The paper concludes that whilst there is still a long way to go, progress is being made under the government's comprehensive anti-corruption strategy.
