This paper argues that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is on the verge of becoming irresolvable but that President Barack Obama's first term offers a final opportunity to settle it. The author explores the complex web of imperatives underlying the conflict and warns that the toxins of this quintessentially 20th-century quarrel could spill over and poison an already heavily challenged 21st century. The paper details three proposed moves led by the Quartet (the US, UN, EU and Russia) to effectively resolve the conflict within the first term of the Obama administration.
