This paper argues that Ukraine's 'Orange Revolution' not only meant an express commitment to Europe, but also implied an economic choice. According to the authors, pride in the ability of Ukraine’s economy to compete in an open market dovetailed with belief in the nation’s democratic future. They examine what the prospects for Ukraine’s economy are in the increasingly competitive environment that comes with accession to the World Trade Organization and rapid engagement with the EU.
