This paper examines the consequences of changes in the pesticide approvals process in Europe. Proponents believe that the disappearance of a number of compounds will benefit health and the environment; others fear significant decreases in crop yield and quality. This brief explores the potential implications for UK agriculture and horticulture and examines other crop protection strategies available that complement or compensate for pesticides.
