This Yearbook spans three areas: arms control and disarmament, the environment and peace agreements. The section on arms control and disarmament covers the verification aspects of all major agreements relating to weapons of mass destruction as well as conventional armaments. The environment section reflects the verification aspects of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol to the 1992 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The chapters on peace accords assess two of the most widely known aspects of monitoring and verification: the military and civilian police aspects.
