This study examines various implications on the stability and security of the Central Asia region. The author finds that all of the countries in Central Asia have massive deficits in the field of governance and that all are still suffering from the political and economic consequences of the collapse of the Soviet Union. He also points out the political instrumentalization of cultural, ethnic and other differences, Central Asia's structural conflict causes, its constructive conflict-resolution capacity as well as several conflict-aggravating security risks. He finally gives recommendations on how to tackle these problems.
