This paper examines South Africa's National Urban Renewal Program (NURP) in terms of its potential contribution to urban safety. It focuses on the URP's implementation in the Metropolitan Municipalities, exploring whether they are in line with the scope of the CSVR's City Safety Project. The author explores the relationship between urban renewal and crime prevention, describing the NURP, its components and the nature of the renewal plans.
