This paper identifies money transfer services in Kenya and examines their use by businesses and individuals, particularly low-income earners. It demonstrates an unmet demand for efficient, reliable and affordable services in the country. The authors discuss the formal, semi-formal and informal services used to send or receive payments or remittances domestically, regionally and internationally. They analyze the different service features and gaps in access, exploring the opportunity and criteria for developing money transfer products and microfinance services.
