This paper examines the development of sustainable bioenergy in the countries of the Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa (UEMOA). The authors provide country profiles of the eight member states of the organization outlining economic, social, demographic and energy data. They also summarize opportunities and challenges to sustainable bioenergy development in the region and explain the policy of the UEMOA on this issue.
