This report focuses on trends in higher-level religious and secular education in Bangladesh and Pakistan. It discusses the links between Islamic education, community and violence, and the role of private universities as a haven for elite students seeking an escape from religious conflict. The authors demonstrate the implications and development of the sociopolitical landscape of Muslim South Asia for US policy and security interests in the region.
