This issue explores political dynamics in South and Central America. It opens with an assessment of the link between democratization and regime stability in Latin America and continues with a discussion on exogenous drivers of change in Latin American political institutions. It also examines inter-party dynamics in the Argentine Chamber of Deputies between 1989 and 2007, explores the determinants of voter turnout in the world’s largest electorate subject to mandatory voting - Brazil - and assesses the capacity of Latin American political parties to adapt to changing environments.
