This journal opens with a critique of internally displaced persons' (IDPs) protection that prioritizes state-centric 'neutrality' and marginalizes 'everyday politics,' focusing on Karen State and other parts of rural Burma/Myanmar. It continues with an examination of the transnational effects of the Burmese diaspora in Thailand on peacebuilding in Burma/Myanmar, assesses the impact of withdrawing international aid on the stability of oppressive and contested regimes and analyzes the results of Indonesia's parliamentary elections in April 2009. It concludes with an evaluation of the drivers of declining piracy in Southeast Asian waters during the first decade of the 21st century.
