This working paper evaluates the use of the Composite Index of Market Access (CIMA) by applying the concept to US rice exports between 2006 and 2008. CIMA is designed to capture the full range of costs faced by rice exporters when they sell to import markets and is based on the concept of a price ladder. The author assesses the structure of the rice industry and trade barriers for exports.
