This paper discusses why trade flows are especially important in agricultural adjustments to climate change, particularly in light of recent research that suggests that the CO2 fertilization effects in farmers’ fields are less than in the laboratory. It reviews literature on climate change, agriculture and international trade and then presents the results in a new analytical framework in order to assess the extent of adjustment via trade flows in much more detail than previously done.
