Not only the real world, but also the virtual Internet community discovered the Ukraine in the course of the "Orange Revolution" last fall. During the oligarchic nineties, only few people outside of the country had been interested in it, but 12 years after the fall of the Soviet Union, the campsites on Independence Square in Kiev suddenly turned into more than just marginal news. Comparing how often certain terms appeared in newsgroups registered by Google Groups, shows that the upsurge of attention was especially high in the German-speaking online community. However, posts often reflected opinions opposed to the protestors in the square.
