The spectacular rejection of the draft constitution for the EU by the people in the Netherlands and in France could have triggered a debate about the direction Europe should head for in the future. But just to the contrary, the visibility of European politics has decreased notably in the summer of 2005 – and not only in pre-election Germany. With little public discussion and business as usual it may take a rather long time for European politics to re-kindle the flame of Europhilia.
