Each year, Tajikistan provides the greatest number of Russia's unskilled and low skilled seasonal migrant laborers, the majority of whom work in the construction industry, along with other types of manual labor. With almost 60 percent of the population of Tajikistan living in poverty, with almost half the country suffering from unemployment, and with little hope for domestic job creation, Tajikistan avoids potential economic ruin by sending 83 percent of its migrant workers to Russia.
