This paper seeks to explore the possible role of trade preferences for environmental goods and services (EGS) in promoting the transition towards a "green economy", focusing on potential beneficial effects for developing countries. WTO members have been considering options for taking developing country trade interests into account by seeking to identify products that are of export interest to developing countries. In this context, this report builds on a consideration of relevant analysis and discussions in the context of the WTO negotiations on EGS. In addition, it explores options for trade preferences for a wider range of products, in particular environmentally preferable products, including in sectors that have received little or no attention in the context of the WTO negotiations on EGS such as agriculture and forestry.
