The paper investigates how abusive use of Economic partnership agreement (EPA) provisions for sanitary, phytosanitary and technical barriers in EPAs could be an obstacle to market access. It also promotes experience sharing among different ACP regions in terms of drawing up negotiating positions. The author concludes that much can be done through the EPAs to considerably reduce the trade restrictive effects of how the EU frames and applies technical barriers to trade or sanitary, phytosanitary regulations, and determines the compliance with them.
