This paper gives an overview of South Africa’s economic changes over the last few decades, analyzing the key factors that have shaped the economy’s chronic labor market crisis. The authors also give concrete recommendations on how to improve the social consequences of trade liberalization and the effects of the crisis on the employment situation.
