This paper analyzes renewable energy feed-in tariff (FIT) programs in the context of WTO subsidy law. Using the Ontario, UK and German FIT mechanisms for renewable energy as examples, the paper explores important questions of subsidy law to determine how current rules may treat FIT programs in an effort to inform the debate on this matter.
