This issue of the IJC journal presents case studies, which explore the knowledge and governance practices of rural people living in Southern African commons. Further articles address the institutional deficiencies of fishery and forest management from Europe to India; the role played by the local elites and transnational organizations (NGOs) receives particular attention.
