Given that a single event can severely tarnish the reputation of a well-established company, the author advises to pay emphatic attention to corporate communications. The company needs to identify risk factors to manage them, and ensure that its media presence exceeds the "awareness threshold" (its message reaches the wider public). Agenda surfing, for instance, helps in leveraging trends in media coverage that are relevant to the company's own reputation.
