Based on a survey conducted by Media Tenor, German media relate information technology to companies only. Passages on IT appear almost exclusively in the context of company coverage, while remaining almost absent from reporting on political or societal developments in Germany. The findings of the survey suggest that, so far, the German media have not fully acknowledged the significance of information technologies for the development of society on a global scale. However, the task of informing the public of opportunities and risks of the rapid expansion of communication technologies can only be accomplished with the help of the media.
