A Media Tenor study on the coverage of ethnic and racial groups shows that leading US media distort the image of American society to the general public. A lack of diversity in reporting leads to a reinforcement of old stereotypes of specific ethnic groups. According to Media Tenor, the coverage with minority groups as the main protagonists of the story was particularly alarming, as these groups were generally portrayed in negative situations involving court cases, violence, epidemics and conflicts.
