This article presents the results of an EU-wide comparison of the TV news coverage of the European elections 2004. The findings of the study suggest that significant differences in the coverage of the European elections by the different national media point towards a lack of a shared European public conscience. On average, media in the new member countries paid slightly more attention to the elections than their counterparts in the old member countries but overall, national perspectives dominated the coverage of the EU in most news programs.
