In this paper, two authors address post-Cold War restructuring processes in Northeast Asia and assess the implications for US policy. The first author focuses on new challenges to America’s alliances with South Korea and Japan with regards to these countries' expanded economic strength and aspirations. The second author interprets the domestic and regional realities of Northeast Asia in terms of political realignment. In particular he examines the effects of economic dynamism in the midst of political uncertainty on the international relations of the region.
