This report presents the proceedings of an expert workshop held held in May 2002 in Washington, DC, bringing together 28 experts from eight countries. The primary aim of the workshop was to identify major logistical, communications and political problems that could arise during a Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) challenge inspection. As the basis for discussion, the moderators prepared a hypothetical scenario that was divided into several parts. Drawing on this scenario, the workshop participants discussed each stage of the challenge inspection process. The workshop scenario and a summary of the discussion are contained in these proceedings.
