This paper explores the nature and implications of Obama's maritime strategy towards East Asia, seen as a continuation of Bush's foreign policy. The author argues that its ultimate political goal is to maintain the status quo against a rising China and securing and protecting maritime commercial trade and energy security in the region. China should not imitate the American grand strategy, the author argues.
