This speech discusses the state and issues of the US-Japan Alliance, as well as touching upon relations between the US, China and Southeast Asia. The speaker argues that the alliance is on a recovery path from the rock-bottom situation in the first half of 2010 and attributes responsibility to three factors: 1) a series of events has made both sides rediscover its importance; 2) the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami and subsequent joint recovery operation and 3) efforts made to advance the bilateral alliance review process started in the mid-2000s.
