This paper presents a broad and complex view of displacement caused by the exploitation of oil. Underlying the global dimension of this phenomenon, the author addresses political and environmental contexts of displacement and their relationship with indigenous rights, the ethical responsibility of business, and ethnic conflicts and civil wars. The author also highlights the need to guarantee the rights of local communities to participate in the distribution of profits from the exploitation of resources.
