The annual report of the South African Department of Defence represents a summary of activities carried out by the Department in the year 2011/2012. In the year under review, the DOD continued to play a crucial role in supporting the South African government’s foreign policy by being ready to respond to calls to support and promote peace in the continent whether on a bi-lateral or multilateral level. In pursuance of the new growth path the strategy aims to ensure an appropriately composed, empowered and managed defence human resource complement to execute the Department’s mandate and mission.
