In this book, former Army chief of staff George W. Casey provides insights into his experiences during his 32 months of combined command in Iraq. He addresses the events, decisions, and actions of the Multi-National Force–Iraq (MNF-I) mission, with a special focus on how both military and civilian forces adapted to changing security environments and circumstances in the course of the operation. In his account of the Iraq war, the author argues that the challenges he faced during his command hold valuable lessons for future military and civilian leaders in an era of persistent conflict.
