This paper explores alternative dispute settlement systems to the WTO. The author argues that these other systems are often not complete substitutes for the WTO. They do offer forum selection alternatives, however they frequently have a main focus that only overlaps with the WTO Agreement. He suggests that when selecting a forum for dispute settlement, developing countries need to take account of political and economic questions associated to them. Furthermore, they need to think about these aspects and the possible legal outcome before trying to start litigation.
