This paper looks into the ideas and beliefs connected to intellectual property. It does this by studying the answers in a survey completed by more than 1600 intellectual property professionals. The author argues the study shows that debates in the area of intellectual property are more complex and subtle than is usually thought. For example, it suggests that professional affiliations are more important in shaping views than a person's country of birth. The study also emphasizes the importance of higher education and capacity building in this area.
