This brief surveys the prospects for Guinea's democracy since the legislative elections in 2010. These elections led to mistrust, protest, and an impasse between government and the opposition over the legitimacy of electoral processes. The authors highlight the factors contributing to the conflict and offer recommendations for stakeholders to mitigate worst case scenarios. They conclude that ethnic divisions and political interests are contributing to the impasse. They also emphasize the need to widen participation and minimize potential election disputes and violence.
