This paper discusses the future of US alliances in Asia and their implications for the Korean Peninsula. The author argues that the United States' dominant place and influence in Asia is gradually being eroded by the increasing capabilities of both its allies and rivals in the region. He also identifies three specific challenges for the future of US alliances in Asia; engagement with China, management of North Korea, and the issue of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief capabilities, particularly in Southeast Asia.
