This report analyzes the effects and implications of narco-trafficking in Guinea-Bissau. The authors argue that Guinea-Bissau’s cycle of coups and crises are a result narco-trafficking on the continent which has resulted in hollowed out state structures, political deadlock, a fragmented military, and widespread instability that spills across borders. They further argue that addressing these challenges will require fundamental reforms in the Office of the President, the depoliticization of a top-heavy military, and strengthening of international counter-narcotics cooperation.
