In September 2012, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders endorsed the APEC List of Environmental Goods, which commits its members to reduce applied tariffs to 5 percent or less by the end of 2015. This paper discusses the possible benefits as well as limitations of this list. It concludes that, although only a relatively small number of ‘environmental products’ on the APEC List may benefit from tariff reduction, the APEC tariff-reduction pledge remains politically highly significant.
