This report documents financial flows in the health sector and provides in-depth analysis of issues such as health research funding by low- and middle-income country governments and the private sector. It also covers the financing of research on neglected diseases. The report highlights the need for a multisectoral approach to understanding the determinants of health. This points to the challenge of reconceptualizing health research as "research for health" and of developing tracking systems that identify relevant sources and applications of research resources that lie beyond the health sector.
