This report examines the findings of a study on the relationship between security and socioeconomic wellbeing in Somaliland. The results suggest a high degree of correlation between improvements in safety and security levels and socioeconomic benefits to communities. These benefits include fewer conflicts, more secure communities at night, fewer accidents involving small arms and explosive remnants of war, and better community-police relations. The author suggests that these benefits have contributed to improved economic conditions and generally increased household incomes.
