This paper looks at Korea’s Confucian strategies toward China during the Qing Dynasty in order to understand the traditional East Asian order and to predict its future. The author argues that the traditional East Asian order reflects both cultural and power factors. He also believes that cultural factors are as important as power distribution in the reconstruction of the future order of East Asia, and that soft power is an essential part of Korea’s strategies toward China.
